FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 13-19, 2009

WHAT I’M READING: Possession by A.S. Byatt. Still. (By the way, A.S. Byatt is a woman. Maybe you knew that.) It is a very good book. It is a very hard book. Maybe pre-baby, I had more brain to absorb such a hard book with so many big words. In my new existence, it takes a lot of effort. But enough complaining. Today I read ten pages.

WHAT ELSIE’S READING: The same four books. Try as we might to shake up the pattern, this girl knows what she wants. Our babysitter said it so gently the other day: “Elsie doesn’t do transitions as well as some kids. She knows what she wants.” Screw transitions. Right, Elsie Pants? Who’s your Mama?

WHAT I’M WATCHING: The first episode from the new season of Weeds. Mary Louise Parker is one sexy Mama. She does ‘nonchalant’ superbly. Also on my list: Mad Men. I must find out what all the excitement is about.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: K’naan and Bob Dylan. Not at the same time, silly. Okay sometimes at the same time.

WHAT I’M WEARING: My birthday blouse. My sister got me a gorgeous purple striped man blouse for my birthday. I’m wearing it right now. What do you know? In fact, I’ve worn it every day this week. Maybe I’ll wear every day until my next birthday. Then I could save all those clothing decision brain cells for A.S. Byatt. That’s just smart.

WHAT I’M EATING:: Never mind what I’m eating. Let me refer you to the little girl who now has four teeth. Do you know how many more food options exist when you have teeth? SO MANY OPTIONS. Apple slices, raisins, carrot cake, water chestnuts, red bean paste in a pastry thingy, to name a few. Still no grapes. Grapes = brain damage. So I’ve heard. Not a joking matter.

WHAT I’M ENJOYING: Going to bed at 10:30 PM. I should also mention that Elsie waves goodnight when we put her down for the night. Probably the cutest and most tender-est thing in the world. Sadly and wonderfully she is changing.

WHAT I’M SNIFFING: Birthday candles being snuffed out. I’m optimistic about my 30th year and Elsie’s 2nd. We are going to kick this annum in the ass! Okay, that kind of hoopla/grandiose statement is definitely not me. I should probably hit delete. But first I’ll swish it around in my mouth for a few seconds and see if it could possibly be the making of a new me.

what i’m reading: email. work email. a lot of work email. its almost to the point of insanity.

what i’m watching: recently saw inglorious basterds. still processing. its hard to put how you feel about QTs films in a word. there were parts where i laughed out loud and moments that i think were intended to be funny.

what i’m listening to: kings of leon and U2. because i missed both their concerts this weekend. sad.

what i’m wearing: three new dresses from a newly discovered store on queen street. again, i am utterly spoiled.

what i’m eating: back for more organic walnut bread from that bread shop on lakeshore. the name of it escapes me but it starts with a “T”. I could look it up but i am actually feeling kinda lazy.

    what i’m enjoying: feeling secure.

what i’m sniffing: love is in the air. i can smell it.
