For the week of December 14-20:
WHAT I’M READING: Malcolm Gladwell’s The Outliers. Very interesting study of who makes it big and why.
WHAT SIMON’S READING: He’s not reading anything because we had this romantic notion that I would read The Outliers to him on the road. That was before we packed the car so tight talking required a mega phone. For example:
ME FROM THE BACK SEAT. Can you pass me the good lip chap?
SIMON TURNING HIS HEAD AND NARROWLY MISSING THE ONCOMING SUV. What?
ME, A TOUCH LOUDER. Can you pass me the good lip chap?
SIMON TURNING HIS HEAD AND NARROWLY MISSING THE CATTLE TRUCK. I can’t hear you.
ME, A TOUCH TOUCH LOUDER. LIP CHAPPPPPP!!!!!
FINALLY WE COME TO AN UNDERSTANDING.
SIMON. Oh. Here.
Now do that for eight hours and see how much you feel like reading out loud to your lover.
WHAT I’M WATCHING: Americana passing me by. In the form of Freedom Car Washes and the like.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: The Counting Crows Simon style. Apparently the lyrics are “Omaha, somewhere in middle of America” and not “Old Maha…” Who knew? I’ve never been one for the accuracy of lyrics. I’m all about the feelings they evoke.
WHAT I’M WEARING: Well, for starters, NOT my turquoise shoes. Instead I am donning regular ol’ runners and Lulelemon purple pants. It’s my driving uniform. I dress the whole thing up with a big ring.
WHAT I’M EATING: Cracker Barrel menu items. What can I say? I’m moving to Texas for down home cookin’ and you can’t stop me.
WHAT I’M ENJOYING: Taking pictures of Si, Elsie and a road side buffalo.
WHAT I’M SNIFFING: Simon’s car farts. He has been officially banned from eating beans or anything from McDonalds or I start throwing his possessions out the window to make more breathing room.

So cool, wish I could join you. Well actually no, been subjected to too many car farts in the past. At least Darlene rolls down her window and warns everyone. Amber sits there quietly with a little smirk on her face until the moment comes and the overpowering whiff of something dead overpowers us all. Then she gleefully cackles like the witch she is for subjecting us to her foul stench. I just love my family.
Hope to see you all soonest.
Is the big ring you’re wearing the one I bought you from Saks?! That would make it uber-american!!
xo
I saw you today as you moved slowly around,
Touching the hearts of the people as you smiled,
Being passed from one loving embrace on down,
For this is the joys when one sees and holds a child.
Your Mother accepting the welcoming of love,
As your Father beams with pleasure for you two,
Finally home but still feeling what travel consists of,
Weariness is showing subtly but still coming through.
So we wait to greet you properly in any event,
Something that I hope will happen soonest for sure,
For how are we to meet you properly on one attempt,
For sure you will be busy on your Christmas tour.
So push your parents to bring you out,
Push your grandparents and aunt too,
Your community needs to see you little sprout,
In this we need you to follow through.
Little one, bring out your sunshine for us to see.
Remain in the blog as a character no more,
We want to hear and we want to it to be,
The coming out of Elsie Marie Alfred we adore.
