a little bit of gratitude

Suddenly feel overwhelming gratitude.

Grateful for the baby lying beside me, exploring her new soother and practicing her smile. The music in the background making me weepy, like one of those relationship movie soundtracks announcing ‘everything shall be well.’

Grateful that my dream for Elsie is still intact. Seeing that homeless man in Santa Monica carrying his endless shopping bags tied in little knots…all I could think was that his mother had a dream for him at one point…

Grateful to be able to sit in my ant infested apartment with a coffee and write.

Grateful for my husband’s random French phrases. He ushers me out the door with “levez-vous,” followed by the other words he remembers: “la grenouille dans le ciel est vraiment chose.” Emphasis on “vraiment.”

Grateful for my mother, my functioning legs, arms, fingers…coffee, the glimmer of my red nail polish, my sis, toast, Elsie’s pacifier, my dad’s sermons, his humor…you know, just grateful.

I’m grateful for you…I was hoping you had posted something today – it being the big 30 on this end – and this post is strikingly close to what I was feeling today (just written more eloquently…)
