It’s Independence Day in the US, and Simon is hanging around this morning—hence the blog delay. We’re doing our usual breakfast routine: French toast, espressos, and ipod, which has to blare at quite a volume (Kathleen Edwards—I’m telling you her new cd is great) to beat the air conditioner (seriously, the thing is a monster). Conversation ranges from raw butter to orange juice made from concentrate, and halting, of course, so we can both sing our favorite line: “Just my luck, an Irish Rose…”
Now, I’m sitting here in the lazy boy inspecting my belly for protruding body parts. Simon is tending to the espressos. It’s a process. He’s a scientist. This is good because I know the quality of the espresso will be high. Bad, if I want the espresso quickly. Further, the kitchen must have achieved a semblance of order before he can even begin. Wife, on the other hand, relishes the mess when cooking and does not fall into the group of people that “clean as they go.”
That’s about all. If it gets more interesting, the internet will be the first to know. I promise.

Love the picture and as the uber “clean as you go” girl all I can say is “Ha!”
love Nat
Too bad I had no one to celebrate July 4 with–no one to make me espresso coffee meticulously and carefully. Business as usual in the U.K., but sufficiently productive to keep one content.
From my study carrel. . . Mom
p.s. Notice how I’m beginning to sound like a PhD thesis writer–no subjective “I” in that last phrase. I’m getting the knack for sounding passive and distant: “One is content!”–so foreign to blogs.
but did you at least wave an american flag – a small gesture to your homeland? maybe there’s something about isolation that evokes patriotism? subject for a thesis? round two.
this chitter chatter about kathleen edwards… i really must get some… to hear… cant wait to see you both.
