Dear Tammy,

Thanks so much for the shampoo. What a lovely surprise!

I have a confession to make. I succumbed and got my hair cut – a modest Riverside cut and not the $300 cut I was initially exploring on Rodeo Drive. It feels like I betrayed you, but I was getting desperate. I hope you will understand my dilemma and forgive me.

My haircut is okay, but certainly not your caliber of artistry. Change is painful…and it seems quite awkward. You see, I came in the wrong entrance and was subsequently greeted with: “Can I help you?” I felt a little put off (I think I was expecting our usual hug) and replied cooly, “I have an appointment with Mandy.” It turns out she was Mandy. We quickly shifted into warm and cosy mode, understanding the code of conduct for a palatable first date. We chit chatted about ‘what I do’ (which is always painful) and her extensive body tattoos. I came out with a decent haircut that has grown into something I quite like.

If it’s any consolation, Simon did not fair nearly as well. He got a haircut special in Venice Beach from a woman who did not understand his hair and the potential for serious puff when cut incorrectly. He even explained: “I don’t want puff.” What did he come out with? Puff. I had a sense it was going to turn out badly when I popped in to say ‘hi.’ Simon was visibly tense but feigning fun; the stylist looked like a scared surgeon.

His puff put a damper on both of our days, particularly mine. And I was already upset about our farmer’s market vegetables and 8 dollar goat cheese turning to mush in our trunk. Did I mention it gets pretty hot here?

Anyway. Lots of love to the salon.

R

p.s. I have attached a photo for your analysis. Be gentle. I cry easily.

Hmm, trendy, whimsical, a generation Y-er going her own way. What ever, it looks good. BTW your getting a little pink around the edges there. I guess it’s true about red heads and the sun. Eh?

Thanks! Fortunately my pink has now turned to a tan (as much as I can tan…) :)
